Snowdon sunrise climb

frequently asked questions

Climbing Snowdon is achievable for most active people. As this is a group event, you will be expected to keep up with the rest of the group and therefore you should be comfortable with 6-7 hour hikes with a small backpack. If you are worried about being too slow then please get in touch so we can discuss your options. We also offer walking specific fitness programmes and private guiding.

Our start location will be in Llanberis village. The exact start point will be e-mailed over 4-6 weeks prior to your hike.

There is no official National Park car park in Llanberis but there are numerous car parks in the village, starting from as little as £6 for the day. The nearest car park is the Snowdon Mountain Railway pay & display (LL55 4TT), situated behind the station. There is also a large public car park opposite the station.

There is no hiding the fact that this is an early start! The exact meeting time will be determined by sunrise times for that month. Expect to meet between 1am and 4am but exact timings will be e-mailed 4-6 weeks prior to your trip.

That really depends on how quick you walk! During our group hikes, our aim is to stay together and walk as a one. But we do have the option to split the group if needed as there will be more than one leader present. Typically it will take six to eight hours to get to the top and back down. Our aim isn’t to race up the mountain, instead our focus is on ensuring everybody has a thoroughly enjoyable day out.

Please note. There are no stops for water refills or food along the route, so you should bring sufficient water (at least 2-3 litres per person) and plenty of food.

There are toilets situated at the Snowdon Railway station but these are closed outside of operating hours. The nearest 24/7 public toilets can be found near the lake and at Maes Padern. Once on the path there are no public toilets until we reach the summit. Please be aware that the toilet facilities at the summit are unlikely to be open in time for this sunrise experience.

Whilst we are good at what we do, unfortunately we cannot control the weather. In the unlikely event the weather isn’t on our side, you will have still achieved a night time climb of the highest peak in England and Wales!

A very high percentage of our walkers achieve a successful summit! Our leaders will always do their best to get you there. However, for safety reasons it may not always be possible. Whilst the summer months bring calmer mountain weather, it is important to note the weather can change at any time. In the unlikely event of poor weather, the guide reserves the right to turn the group around before the summit, in the interest of safety.

Dogs are welcome on our sunrise hike, however, please ensure they are suited to the length, duration and environment of such a challenge. They will also need to be on the lead throughout the adventure due to the number livestock/nesting birds in the area.
